Basically I like me some Southern Fried chicken but I hate the crap that they do in the fast-food stores and I try to avoid deep fried foods despite what my ever increasing waist would have you believe. So I was wondering if it is possible to cook this type of chicken in the oven.

    Thanks!

Ummm you could try and get the frozen ones from a supermarket and then cook it in the oven. That's all I can think of.

Erm Southern fried chicken is by definition fried, and it is way easier if you deep fry it although you can pan fry it in a cm or so of oil if you keep turning it, although it doesn't work so well - you can then finish it in the oven if you want to but it's a bit pointless, you might as well keep cooking it in oil.

Yeah you can shove it in the oven, try putting it under grill for a crispier coating :coma:

Southern fried chicken that you'd buy in a supermarket is actually meant to be cooked in an oven. As leeming said, just buy it and follow the instructions on the box; they will ALWAYS give you instructions for cooking the stuff in an oven, often from frozen.
Hell, if you're that worried about it, buy fresh chicken, make your own coating, mix some of the coating with flour, coat the chicken in the flour mixture and stick it in the oven I'd recommend briefly frying it (even just for a few seconds on each side, just to emphasise how briefly) before sticking it in the oven, though.

The frozen coated chicken you buy is supposed to be oven cooked I think? Just check the packet though? :dontknow:

I'm pretty sure it only has to be deep fried when you're coating the chicken to make it stick! But this has already been done when you buy it frozen.

Plus like someone else said earlier... grilling it = extra crispy :coma:
