This is a bit of a random question, but what's the general academic/social view of KCL? How great of a uni is it, in terms of the social life/the academics/regard by employers/proffessors etc?

It ranks in the top 10 usually, I think

KCL would be one of my top choices, personally. It's in nice locations, performs well academically and stands out for the kind of courses I would be particularly interested in doing, which helps. The university probably gets overshadowed a little because of the proximity of specialist London colleges that have better-known names (Imperial, LSE and so on).

Cheers for that, it just seems no-one really comments on KCL?

Never heard of anyone that I know saying 'Ooh, I'll apply there' so I'm just a bit confused. :o:

Yes, but remember 1/3 of ALL med applications are directed to KCL, so the competition there is probably the highest of all.

As I said on your other thread it ranks pretty highly for History. Also they rejected me without interview...so it has its good and bad points. :p:

It's the most popular med school and I'm almost certain it stands at 1/3

That's a large proportion to suggest, but then again it is medicine after all

I'm not sure for other subjects but I have the impression it's pretty good. A fair few people I go to school with applied there.

My rejection was probably because I "only" got an A in GCSE History. Doesn't bother me really, they have to base their selection on one criteria or another, it just so happened I didn't meet KCL's this year.

    It sucks.

    But I'm biased :p:

Nah, it's a good uni, definitely. Shame about closures though.

I did my undergraduate degree at cambridge and then a masters at KCL. And I was convinced KCL was one of the worst "top 20" universities in the country by the end of the year.

I refer to studying maths in the following:

    1. The teaching was poor - very little intensive tuition.
    2. The standard was very low - infact, my first year undergraduate exams were harder than my masters exams in terms of the depth of the questions.
    3. The facilities were terrible - building work going on all the time in the strand campus to the point that you couldn't even hear the lecturer.
    4. No community of students - particularly among graduates students. Hardly any ents, meals etc. arranged.
    5. I hate london.

I wonder if it'd be the same for an undergraduate degree?

And maths? It doesn't rank that high for maths, no?
