I'm joing the gym tommorrow but I have NO idea what to do.

I know I'm going to do alot of swimming for at least an hour, maybe more. I want to lose fat and build muscle.
I'm about 130lb now 5 ft 4, but skinny fat.

What the hell do I do?

go on the crosstrainer for like 20mins before you swim..it absolutely kills you..and you work harder when you swim..but it does help..

well the fat you have now can be 'turned' into muscle

use weights, dumbells, bench press, incline, etc

but i suggest using a personal trainer once or twice so they can give u a plan u want

    Both.

Anyone know if there are free personal trainers in gyms?

Almost every gym instructor I have come across is useless.

An hour swim very respectable.

There can't be many who regularly swim for over an hour. If you have that kind of ability as a swimmer I think the best thing you could do work at the swimming and forget the gym.

dont be silly. the fact that you can swim for over an hour clearly shows you have the ability.

if you swim twice / three times a week and you'll be sorted.

much better than wasting your time in the gym if you dont know what you are doing there.

Ok heres how it goes, youre new to the gym SO:

First few weeks - Just do cardio, easy to set up and use, good for testing motivation. If you can turn up to the gym regularly then:

Next few weeks - work in a few machines and cut out a bit of the cardio. Just do a machine for each different bit of your body.

Once you start getting comfortable with the machines, start replacing them with free weight alternatives. Basically the same motion on the same muscles but just using the dumbbells or barbells.

Lots of people will tell you to get straight on the free weights, but its not going to happen. Hardly anyone I know walks into the gym on the first day and start squatting. Just get used to the gym, the machines and get going regularly. Then get into it more and find out about free weights..

Cardio wise, if you can go everyday Id do 1 day slow paced recovery and 1 day hard intervals. And take sundays off.

    And eat properly.
