I'm being bridesmaid for my friend in October.

There's just me and my friend's little girl. The little girl is 18 months old and is wearing white and my friend is wearing an ivory dress with gold embroidery on the bodice. Her dress is very simple. She wants me to wear a long white dress but most of the white dresses are more bride looking and I don't want there to be any confusion!

The wedding is at Gretna Green and the men are all wearing blue kilts and I thought if my dress had some kind of trim to match the kilts that might be a good idea.

I searched the internet for ideas but I'm stuck. Anyone got any ideas?

I forgot to say that I'm a size 6 with very little cleavage!

lol about you not wanting any confusion!

but this is a pretty good site
    I love the dress I found...http://www.dessy.com/dresses/bridesmaid/2717/

EDIT: all the dress designs come in ivory and you can select the colour for all of them incase the preview is of a different colour.. I'm assuming they'd be more expensive than the monsoon dress though... that one's beautiful !!

Hmm, that's a bit strange for the bride to want you to wear white! I'd maybe speak to her and get more of an idea of what she wants you to wear. Even if you just sketch a few ideas, or go shopping together so she can see what styles are out there, and what suits you it might be easier to come up with something together.

That's exactly what my friend is wearing so I definitely can't wear that!

I would definitely go shopping with your friend so that you can get an idea of what she'd like you to wear. I think it's going to be difficult of ryou to find something long and white that isn't too "bridey".

There's some lovely dresses there but as I'm paying for it then I really would like it to cost a little less.

What do you think of this one? Is it too dressy to go with my friend's dress?

We've been together most of today! I would prefer to go for something that picks up the colour in the men's kilts but she wants me in the same colour as her daughter. And I worry a bit that as her dress is ivory, then mine would make it look grubby in the photographs.

What about this? You could take it up, it has a bit of blue, not OVERLY wedding-y. Or look through eBay, some make them to your exact size etc.

Didn't see your size! But with that one you can have it altered to yours anyway.

it is a bit... It could do with being more plain... argh your situation would be so much better if she was wearing a toilet roll cover type dress...

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/F10-New-Sexy-S...3A1%7C294%3A50

something like this one off ebay... I know it's not your size but you could get it altered... not bad for 99p!!

edit: omg...this http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Cool-Georgette...3A1%7C294%3A50 and you could wear it away from the wedding...

That is nice and a definite possibility. Ir's out of stock in my size but they may get more in. I might give them a ring later.

It does have to be long.

    Thanks for looking.

How long is long? Floor length?

Vivien of Holloway's dresses are mid-thigh reaching and very nice. So if Perhaps something like this; http://www.vivienofholloway.com/1950...tin-Dress.html
but without the petticoat [to make it less wedding dressy] + with a blue ribbon around your waist and matching blue shoes to go with the kilt colour?

I wore a VoH dress for my prom, I don't have much cleavage either [B cup] but wore a padded bra to fill it out and it was fine.

Long is floor length. I did like that dress though!

I think that I am going to see if she would accept me wearing gold as I've seen a suitable dress at Debenhams.

At the end of the day, I'm paying for it and if the dress is unwearable for other occasions that seems unfair, especially as I already have to buy a new dress for a relaunch party at Seaham Hall in connection with my job, in a few weeks time.

Ah. [Oh and I meant calf length. 3:44am and my mind is half mush lol].

    Good luck with your search.

Seems quite odd to ask your bridesmaid to wear a long white dress...! Try asking if she'd mind it being shorter? You can get so many nice knee-length white dresses, and then people would DEFINITELY know who's who :P

Well we got together this evening and we've narrowed it down to two dresses.

    This one in pink,

    http://www.littlewoods.com/rf/p.do/w...13&pageSize=12

and this one, most likely worn as the middle picture shows but we'll decide when I try it on.

If we don't like either of them then we will hit the shops on Monday, next week!
