Contraceptive Pill and Migraines

Hello there,
I was on the Microgynon 30 pill for about 6 months. I noticed that I started to get migraines, which got progressviely worse, but didn't realise that it was from taking the pill until I was getting about 2 a week which lasted hours. It was a throbbing pain in the same area of my head. Now that I've stopped, I have had one migraine in a whole month.
Just wondering if anyone else has had this problem? What should I do?- I keep thinking if I go onto another brand, the same might happen again? The obvious thing is to go to my GP- which I will do, but personal experience of others might be more helpful in some cases.
Thanks,
Sara x

I had the same problem - I was on loestrin 20 and it made the migraines I had before even worse. So I came off it and went on the progesterone only pill and now I odn't hav any problems

Loestrin sucks but I have to say the one thing it has done is get rid of my migraines.
Yeh, contraceptive pill is well documented as a cause for migraines, and it really is just a matter of swapping pills until you find one that works for you.

I also had problems with microgynon. I was on it for two years with no problems but then started to get regular headaches (which I never had before). Anyway, swapped to Femodette, headaches disappeared and everything was fine. Was on this for a couple of years and started to get really bad skin, swapped pills again. Am now on Mercilon, so will see how this one works out. Like someone in a previous post said, you just need to find the right one for you. Really hoping this time it might be the right one for me!! Good luck

When I was first considering going on to the pill, the doctor told me that since I have a history of migraines and things I shouldn't be on the combined pill, so I went straight onto the progestogen-only pill, and had no migraine problems with it. See what your doctor says in your case (everyone is different, etc.), but definitely think about the POP.
