Traveller's cheques. I took half that amount in cash and was fine in Spain. You'll most likely have a safe box in your hotel room? I think you have to pay to use it though.

When I went away this year I got a cash passport and took the rest in cash and kept the cash in a safe in my hotel room. We ordered our cash passports from Travelex online and collected them at the airport. We got told that the cash passport cost 2€ too. We never just took random tenners out or anything, made sure it was worth it and drew out big amounts at a time.
