    1. The Ascent of Man (Around the sun)
    2. Chorus and the ring (Reveal)
    3 Suspicion (Up)
    4 Hope (Up)
5 Binky the Doormat (New Adventures in Hi-Fi)
6 The Wake Up Bomb (New Adventures in Hi-Fi)
7 New Test Leper (New Adventures in Hi-Fi)
8 Undertow (New Adventures in Hi-Fi)
9 Departure (New Adventures in Hi-Fi)
    10 Circus Envy (Monster)
11 Ignoreland (Automatic For The People)
12 Me in Honey (Out of Time)
    13 The Wrong Child (Green)
    14 Just a touch (Life's Rich Pageant)

I chose 14 songs because that's the number of songs on their longest album, New Adventures in Hi-Fi which, to me, is a must buy for many R.E.M. fans.

    Orange Crush
    Animal
What's The Frequency, Kenneth?; the intro

Are these well known ones? I suppose maybe they are ... a bit. But I'd say Man on the Moon and Everybody Hurts are the main 'well known ones'.

I haven't listened to that song in a good while though.

E-Bow the letter is the best thing REM have ever done.

And all of the 'Murmur' album.

At the moment I'm really liking "Try not to breathe" off Automatic for the people (Drive off that album is good too).
Nightswimming is amazing (though that's quite a famous REM song).
Be mine off New Adventures in Hard-fi
E-bow the letter (but again that might be quite well known)
    Superman off Life's rich Pageant
Radio free Europe,Laughing and Pilgrimage off Murmur (in anything off Murmur, it's my favourite album)
    Sweetness Follows off Automatic
    Catapult- Murmur
    Fall on me-life's rich pageant
    Daysleeper

OP, I noticed you didn't include many tracks from Automatic, was it because you don't like automatic as much as the other albums, or most of the songs off Automatic are too well known? Because in my opinion Ignoreland is the worst off the album (but that's just me).

If I had to make a top three for REM albums it would be:
    1.Murmur
    2.Automatic
    3.New Adventures in Hi-fi

I agree that murmur is the best album REM have done. E-bow I don't agree is the best song, but it's certainly up there.

    E-Bow the Letter

    Imitation of Life

    and

    Daysleeper

In a strange way, most REM songs aren't very well-known unless you're an REM fan. For such a famous band, they have a few big pop songs: Shiny Happy People, Everybody Hurts, End of the World as we Know It, Losing My Religion and even then, these are spread out over several decades.

At my most beautiful is a beautiful song.

I also quite liked supernatural superserious and horse to water, both on the accelerate album.

The Great Beyond is probably a bit better known, but I like the lyrics to that a lot too =] REM have had quite a lot of good stuff outside of the main catchment of Everybody Hurts, Losing My Religion etc. really

monster isn't great as a whole but it has some gems too... "I don't sleep, I dream" and "you" in particular

'Find The River' always seems to be overlooked from Automatic for the People. The album New Adventures in Hi-Fi is also criminally underrated. World Leader Pretend is a cracking tune as well.
