Who are the people on our money, and why are they important? watch

    - Charles Darwin. Evolution.

    - Adam Smith

    - Sir John Houblon


    Why are some of these people important enough to put on money? Should money be modernised to include people we all know?

    Elizabeth Fry - Reformed the prison system.

    Adam Smith - Economist who pretty much started free market economics.

    Sir John Houblon - Did quite a few things, Mayor of London, director of the East India Trading Company etc.

    Who says we even must have people on the back of notes?

    Scottish notes are different depending on who issues them - the RBS have castles on the back, the Bank of Scotland had various industrial pictures but now are changing to have bridges, and the Clydesdale have all sorts of random things. Far more interesting than having just one set of bland notes .




    And, if you feel like being really evil to an English shopkeeper...
