I get really nervous because I have a ridiculously low self esteem.....
I have turned down 2 big birthday parties because there will be too many people and at my nephews birthday I felt so uncomfortable and there was not more then 20 people and half of them were relatives the other 10 or so were complete strangers.... I hated it.... i don't know whether its due to me being overweight but I just want to walk away and kind of withdraw into my own little bubble I am the only child.... maybe thats a factor too if I see a group of friends walking on the same road as me I cross over even if their are loads of guests at my house I won't come down... I don't know

anyway I can try to break this habit

I know exactly where you are coming from riotgirl, used to be the same myself!

The best advice I could give to you is 2 things:

+ Exercise - not only does it make you feel better and healtheir naturally, but if you see that you are losing weight then that will give your self-esteem a boost. Martial arts is a good one I find, as it helps you feel better protected as well
+ Join groups/sports groups/activities/something - the best way to get over a fear is to face it head on... try and just immerse yourself in crowds of people... youll eventually just get used to it

    Hope it helps,

    Social Anxiety?

But ...but ..your name is riotgirl. Surely that means you must like crowds to some extent?

Anyway, it's just all about confidence and just remembering that people are there to socialise. You won't be doing yourself any favours if you sit alone in a corner feeling sorry for yourself. Even if you don't feel confident, just walking up to new people at parties and making conversation gives them a great impression of you and, after enough times, you'll begin to see that it really isn't that daunting.

I get really anxious in crowed places, just like walking down a busy street makes me stupidly nervous, so whilst I have no advice, I empathise
