This thread makes me die a little bit inside.

Look no further than the likes of J&MC, Pavement, Dinosaur Jr., Sonic Youth, My Bloody Valentine, Yo La Tengo, (early) Modest Mouse, Sebadoh, Guided by Voices etc. for great alt. rock songs. The Kooks... don't make me laugh!

Not sure if they class as "Indie", but The Smiths "This Charming Man" and "There's a Light that never goes out" are two of my faves.

How can that be a poor comment? I'm asking a question and I sincerely want to know if you are regarding indie music as all music released by independent labels (however you define that - presumably those that are not limited companies) or whether you regard it as a particular musical genre.

When was asking a question a bad thing? It's not like I'm asking something that is universally known like 'What is the opposite of hot?'

I agree that you should listen to a wider variety of indie because there are loads of great bands to get into but if you like that music then I don't think it's right for all the people on here to shoot you down because they don't deem these bands 'indie' enough for their liking, that said here's my top 10.

    1. Arcade Fire - Wake Up
    2. Vampire Weekend - Walcott
    3. Bon Iver - Skinny Love
    4. Reckoner - Radiohead
    5. Neutral Milk Hotel - In The Aeroplane Over The Sea
    6. Wilco - Jesus, Etc.
    7. Beach House - Better Times
    8. The XX - VCR
    9. Foals - Spanish Sahara
    10. The Smiths - There is a Light That Never Goes Out

    William Powers - The Maccabes

Pumped Up Kicks (after watching Mark Foster's interview on MTV censoring his songs, and deem it okay to show crappy shows like Jersey Shore)
