Anything by Los Campesinos or The Decemberists.
Also, We Will Become Sillhouettes by The Postal Service and Tegan and Sara.

Although, on reflection all of these could be described as 'Alternative' but who really cares for this compartmentalisation of music?

I totally agree! The person had decades worth of indie genius at her fingertips, and yet she chose a pitiful list consisting of the wombats and the kooks (and the overrated sex on fire).

    My list
The Smiths - Heaven knows I'm miserable now
    Joy division - Transmission
The Jesus and Mary chain - Psychocandy
My bloody valentine - You made me realise
Echo & the bunnymen - Crocodiles

I'm afraid a short list will have to suffice.

Everyone knows that the best indie comes out of Glasgow/Scotland.

Belle & Sebastian - If you're feeling Sinister.
The Pastels - Nothing to be Done.
The Vaselines - Son of a Gun.
Camera Obscura - Hey Lloyd, I'm ready to be heartbroken.
The Shop Assistants - I don't wanna be friends with you.

NOOOO!! Are you sure you don't mean 'catchiest indie-esque songs played all the time on radio'? Cos if so, fair enough. But just no! I could understand throwing in one of them to a wider list cos you really like the song but you should really expand your knowledge of indie music. Not just the mainstream hits of the last few years but the better, less overplayed stuff. Not saying that there's anything wrong with the mainstream stuff butthere's plenty better - Sex on Fire might be a massive song but have you heard any of their earlier stuff? Or get out some of the Brit classics!
Yes, I have and their grass roots stuff is awesome. Why must everyone completely lay in to me for a simple post? It's not hard. I'm interested to know what people's favourite indie music is. It's not my favourite genre, and Kings of Leon are not my favourite band and yes I do have Scouting for Girls as my screen name because I like the name not necessarily the music f**k you very much.
It's simple, just list some songs and if you've got nothing constructive to say then p*ss off..jesus christ.
