Went to the doctors today to get antibiotics to cure the bout of cystisis/ urine tract infection I am suffering from.

After telling the doctor my symptoms, he sent me for a urine test but also gave me a prescription for antibiotics to cure most infections 'there'.

When I gave my sample to the nurse, she said there wasnt alot in there but there was blood in there (period blood). She gave me another tube to fill at home when I finish my period (to check if the blood in the original sample was from my period) and the sample I gave today is being sent off tomorrow to be tested.

What are they testing for with my orginial sample? They seriously worried me

They are looking for signs of bacteria and pus in the urine. It's common to prescribe an antibiotic when reasonably sure there is an infection without waiting for the culture from the urine sample.

i imagine they'll just be testing it for the UTI,
although they may be checking it for sti's as well as they can have similar symptoms

well, things like leucocytes, protein, Ph, glucose..and for comparing the blood in the first and last sample so its more reliable, i wouldn't worry. To keep yourself from not getting uti's in the future, try and wipe yourself front-back, wear clean cotton underwear, and keep up a good fluid level, im sure you do already but i'll feel guilty if i don't say

    Hope this helps

Its not to worry about, i would have thought it is common practice when they have something like this, it will just allow them to see what is exactly wrong and if there is anything else underlying. Its nothing to worry about honestly.
