I know they have this copycatch software thingy, but was wondering the oldest personal statments on there are how old?

    Don't do it.

I don't know. Remember that you may be invited to an interview, so could be expected to discuss some of the themes outlined in your personal statement. I saw a report recently saying that top universities are increasingly disregarding student's personal statements because of fears of authenticity, so there is no need to be so worried about it that you would resort to copying someone else's. You can use them as examples, but they won't fit your circumstances.

Quite a bit I'd assume. Why would you care? Just do your own. Its not that hard and you can use other's as examples.

I was told 10 years, but the teacher who told me is probably unreliable.

You're better off writing your own anyway - that way you can tailor it specifically to you. I don't know of any university that likes a personal statement to be so general it could apply to anyone wanting to do a degree in a certain subject. Those ones don't stand out from the crowd.
