I've not got a text about it though. I really wanted a new phone cos mine's being a bit stupid and I've still got another year left on my contract. I dunno if I can afford the hassle of changing though.
When I rang up. It went along these lines..

Hello i would like to cancell my contract..
you have over one year off, u will have to pay a termination chagre
But i recieved this text about increase in charges
Oh hold on let me check...
... i see you did recieve that text, no worries we can terminate your contract.

And that was it.

I read somewhere even if you didnt get the text you can still cancel it..also when did u get your contract was it before may ?

Yes.

Phone up Orange on 150 and speak to Customer Services. Say you want to cancel your contract because Orange have changed their pricing. If they say 'did you receive the text', just say yes. If they say you didn't then just phone a second time and when you get to the same stage, follow the procedure I outlined a few posts ago.

You will keep your phone and number. At the end ask for a PAC code which will allow you to change providers.

What are the actual charges? I'm only on a 30 day Sim Only package and I mostly text, so I never go over my minutes. I do use the internet on my phone quite a bit though and my voicemail. Will the charges really affect me or should I just stick with Orange? I'm a bit confused about it all  Thanks

I doubt you can cancel a 30day contract, as you have to keep going til the end of the month/end of August. (If you were unsure).

If you never go over your minutes then only the internet thing will affect you, but a 60p flat rate charge each day you use it may be better for you if you use it regularly. Have a look through your itemised bills online, you should be able to see if you've spent more than 60p each day you've used the internet.

Orange are gonna hate TSR, haha. I did something similar in France actually. I bought a Samsung F490 phone for only 1 €, because I took a 2 year contract. Then later all I had to do was show them proof I was moving to another country (and my proof was my acceptance to a UK uni). And of course I asked for the code that unblocks the network lock, so I can use any SIM car in it now.

High end iPhone rival: 1 €
Terms of subscription: two years
Getting out of the contract because you were already planning to go abroad: priceless!

I'm on the phone and he said the handset is mine, I would only have to pay the remainder of the months on the contract if i cancelled. But, since this loophole then this would mean I wouldn't have to pay any other costs right?

It depends on the phone brand. Usually, there are hidden codes that pull up secret menus which allow you to check this kind of information. Google this string:

[your phone brand] secret codes

So in my case it was Samsung secret codes, and I got what I wanted.

Ex:

Software version: *#9999#
IMEI number: *#06#
Serial number: *#0001#
Battery status- Memory capacity : *#9998*246#
Debug screen: *#9998*324# - *#8999*324#
LCD kontrast: *#9998*523#
Vibration test: *#9998*842# - *#8999*842#
Alarm beeper - Ringtone test : *#9998*289# - *#8999*289#
Smiley: *#9125#
Software version: *#0837#
Display contrast: *#0523# - *#8999*523#
Battery info: *#0228# or *#8999*228#
Display storage capacity: *#8999*636#
Display SIM card information: *#8999*778#
Show date and alarm clock: *#8999*782#
The display during warning: *#8999*786#
Samsung hardware version: *#8999*837#
Show network information: *#8999*638#
Display received channel number and received intensity: *#8999*9266#

*#1111# S/W Version
*#1234# Firmware Version
*#2222# H/W Version
*#8999*8376263# All Versions Together
*#8999*8378# Test Menu
*#4777*8665# GPSR Tool
*#8999*523# LCD Brightness
*#8999*377# Error LOG Menu
*#8999*327# EEP Menu

Type in *#0000# on a Samsung A300 to reset the language
Master reset(unlock) #*7337# (for the new samsungs E700 x600 but not E710)
