I never used to get hayfever but last year I started getting ichy eyes but that was about the worse of it. This year I've just gone through a box of tissues in under a day, it's killing me! Anyone know what's good / helps?

Go to the doctor and they'll prescribe you the right anti-histamines depending on how bad it is.

yup the docotrs is the way to go, they can get you some good free drugs for it! In the mean time, to stop itchy eyes (or at least relieve them) stick a cold wet flannel over your eyes for a few minutes...does the trick for me!

I'm at uni though, takes like 2 weeks to see a doctor :frown: think I'll go down to boots see if they have anything.

Thing is - you can't just tell which anti-histamine is best for which person. It's more a case of trial and error. Some people just respond to some better than others.

I went to the doctors this morning about my hayfever which decided to attack me yesterday afternoon. :stress:

Get some nasal spray, its ace and works wonders.

it's really not worth it...the over the counter stuff is pretty hopeless! Are you sure it takes 2 weeks...i'm at uni and if you walk into the surgery and ask they can get you a doctor in about 15 mins!

Well not really, I think you'll find OTC medication does lots of people just fine ... there's really not THAT much more you can get on prescription anyways.
I wouldn't go to boots though ... try a smaller pharmacy, I get my hayfever tablets 99p for 7 from my local independent

well I would except I'm in south kensington lol, I think only boots can afford the land prices :P. And yes if you go into my health centre and ask for an appointment they'll give you one in 2 weeks time or more. Unless you've broken an arm or something and then I'll just cart you off to the nearest A&E. Personally if I need to see the doctors I ring my local sugergy at home get an appointment and then get a train home for the weekend, lol.

Yep OTC anti-histamines work for me great.

Benadryll one a day, don't have any side effects either which is a bonus.

The best thing to try is Loratidine tablets. These are one a day non-drowsey tablets and work wonders for most people. Tesco sells a box of 7 for 98p or try any other local supermarket. (Clariton is the brand name)

Also try Beconase nasel spray, (beclamethasome) this would especially help with nasel or sinus problems. It is also non-drowey although it may take a few days to work to full effect. Supermarkets own brands are just as good.
Tesco own brand £4.99, or brand name £5.69

Opticrom eye drops are great for itchey eyes you can use them twice a day and stop them itching and watering. No unbranded version but is £3.79 for optricrom. (you cannot use them if you wear contacts.)

Hope that helps
(By the way I am a pharmacy assistant have have two NVQ in pharmacy.

Exactly  I hate the way people dismiss things you can buy over the counter and say 'go to the doctors' ... the only thing I can think of off the top of my head that is POM for hayfever is desloratadine ... and I doubt the doctor is gonna prescribe you that if you haven't tried loratadine first.
I've never ever got tablets from the doctors, the tablets from shops work fine for me everytime - don't knock them too much. Like someone's said, people respond differently to each type, so try them out, then stick with the one that works for you. You might not need to go to the docs at all

benadryl plus!

or having a bad cold (as in my case) seems to get rid of hayfever.
I hate it!
I have tried what seems like everything and nothing makes a difference, even been prescribed ones with steroids :frown:

I take feverfew everyday as a supplement and use benedryl plus as well. It really is a trial and error process unfortunatly. Make a n appointment with the docs and try some of the anti histamines at the chemists in the mean time.

Sex is actually an antihistamine... probably more enjoyable than popping a couple of pills!

Why not try a combination of tabs and nasel spray. with steriods it can take u to 8 weeks for the most effect to work. so keep pursivering with it.
