Call in sick?? Thats what I did to go to the London Recruitment fair, where I was placed at Camp Mendocino in California and I'm happy I decided to bunk work. Its worth a try if you really wanna go
Luckily I didn't have to! I decided that I was going to do this, it was worth a shot and rang my boss today who gave me Saturday off! Even though they're understaffed but I'm usually really reliable and still working the Sunday and when I said what it was for, he let me (don't think he would if I'd just fancied a day off)

im going to the fair! just booked my tickets there.i live in scotland so its quite a treck but im hoping it wil be worth it.
ccusa are stil taking applications.i only finished mine two weeks ago and my interview is on thursday.
im excited but like dead nervous!
they have been great with the whole process tho so i would say go with them and go for it.
I'll be seeing you there! Can't wait for it now - I'm so excited, even though it's all happening so fast. Luckily I'm only two hours away by train and it's not costing me too much. But being there on the day will definitely be worth it I think. - I can just imagine to application process taking forever otherwise and this way we get to look at the camps beforehand and go with a plan. (Plus, I'm going to get a bit of London shopping time afterwards !)

I've not completed my app yet though I will do by the weekend. I won't have had an interview by the time I go but the website says all that can be done at a fair. I've been having a look at the camps that are going to be there and it looks really good. I'm hoping to find one which is more focused on the arts/performing side of things than the sport as I'm not the most athletic person, though I do love watersports. Hopefully there'll be something there to suit me.

Ooh, I'm feeling so happy right now. I love making decisions on things, and when work gave me the time off I was so surprised and also really excited as by this weekend I'm going to have my whole summer sorted!

What kind of things are you hoping to do afterwards? I don't think I'm going to have a huge amount of money to play around with once the camp is finished but I want to do some sight-seeing if possible. I want to get to Orlando and the theme parks, and see some of the other well-known landmarks. I'm just going to have to see how far my savings will take me.

My Application should start circulating as soon as my CRB is received.
I'm hoping that should be by early next week- Then I know Its moved onto a better stage.

Did anyone have an issue with the application showing their skills at a lower level or missing off scouting experience? (If I can't see this correctly, I'm guessing this is how camps will see it!)

I'll phone to get this sorted tomorrow- just wondering if this has happened to anyone on here?

    Thanks in advance

I looked through all the websites of the camps going to the fair and narrowed it down to about five that I really liked, with French Woods definitely being my favourite. I'm really hoping to get placed there at the fair.

Only a couple of days to go - I can't wait, though I can't help feeling that I haven't done everything I should have! Getting references is proving problematic - mainly because I can't seem to get in contact with people. I haven't known my current employer long enough and I haven't spoken to my previous employer since Christmas. I've got the parent of someone I babysit for, and I was going to try and get my ex-form tutor from school as well, though it's just a case of actually trying to get hold of her! Not to mention this 3000 character personal statement type thing that we've got to write - I have no idea - I just feel like I'm repeating myself a lot because a lot of the questions seem to cross over.

I don't know whether I'll actually be able to get a place at the fair - it seems hard to believe that I can turn up having done hardly anything (no interview or CRB etc yet) and still get it sorted in one day. Obviously it will be great if I can, but I wouldn't be surprised if there turns out to be more to it.

You can! I decided at 9pm the night before to go to the CA fair and got placed. I had no references, no proof of ID just had a copy of application form. I sent my references, proof of ID and CRB form a week later. No problem.

Ooh, that's good to know. I've sorted out two referees today and waiting to hear back from the third but obviously they're still not going to be ready by tomorrow.

I'm excited to think that by this time tomorrow I could have my summer sorted!

ooh - 6am! I'm lucky - my train only takes two hours. I'll probably see you there! (not that I'll know because we don't know each other lol, but I imagine we'll pass - probably at the French Woods stand - good luck with it!)

Bleugh, so that was a bit of a waste of a day. Seriously, I talked to virtually every camp there, and either they were only looking for really specific skills or else had no spots for females or a higher minimum age limit. Eventually I spoke to one of the CCUSA staff who looked at my app and said that with the 900 other camps available and my strong music/perf.arts background, I would very likely get placed at a camp specialising in that anyway and it would probably be better to wait and go through the system that way than desperately trying to find anything at the fair. Still, it was disappointing and not really want I was expecting - I figured there'd be people looking for general counsellors but I guess they could have filled in Leeds or else I just got the wrong idea. Anyway, I'm still going for it, but I'm just going to have to wait to get placed by them.

I wish I'd pushed for French Woods a bit more - he didn't have any clarinet spots left but I can't help feeling there must have been something there I could have done!

Was anyone else at the CCUSA fair - how did you find it - more sucessful than me?

i got placed at french woods.im doing piano teaching and musical directing.but when i went there was only one spot for pianists left and almost all the other music spots had been taken!

so i got lucky but im also now scared cause they said they do like 13 musicals every 3 weeks and i have to play for them! so oh god! but at least there are other pianists there,

dont worry about not getting placed i no of two friends last year who didnt get anything at the camp but got something later.especially with performing arts cause french woods was the only performing arts camp there.so im sure ul get something soon.
