I would have thought uni reputation was largely irrelevent for nursing, seeing as the NHS will insist of courses being standardised across the country, like medicine courses are.

Nottingham does a 4 year nursing masters course and I have met some students studying on that, really enjoying it.

Most of the better health care degrees are offered by the old polys - in the old days of University and Polytechnic education, unis wouldn't touch vocational degrees (except medicine and law) with a bargepole, hence the ex-poly courses tend to be far better.

Check out Oxford Brookes - it's supposed to have one of the best nursing degrees and diplomas available.
is oxford brookes part of the university of oxford? ta

I know it's housed at Homerton College, but I thought it had closer links to APU????

so did I.

Who the hell would want to do nursing at cambridge anyway. Cam is an academic university, not vocational.
Much better off going to one of the established nursing places. Nottingham as i recall used to have a great one based i think at grantham. think they knocked it down to make some fancy new houses tho....
Francine checked the website and emailed homerton school of health studies to confirm if they really are doing that Nursing thingy.....she said thank you very much...she can't wait to get into a good uni.... **duh**
she's also considering going to nottingham, although her 1st choices are cambridge + oxford **woooooooo** :P
I think Nursing is not purely/entirely vocational = practical based learning. This is only 50% of the course. 50% of it is academic= theory-based learning. yay :s-smilie:

The Nursing degree from Hormeton College isn't actually a cambridge degree, and since when did Oxford do nursing? As Fluffy said, the good unis academically are not necessarily the better unis for doing vocational courses such as nursing (and yes, I'm aware medicine is vocational as well  )
although some people do vocational degrees/courses at these 'well-known' unis since they have high reputation. good to look at when you do your cv's.
however, it is really up to the person. If you are good at something, you will really excel no matter what the uni/college you went to!
your partly right tho!

Yes, but I'm a bit bemused by where the nursing degree at the cambridge college comes from if it isn't cambridge?
