Too poor to ever go on holiday... Watch

Please keep anon because people I know use TSR, and I don't want them to know how much my parents earn.
I'm 15, and have never been on holiday before, not even on a British holiday. My dad's on £18,000 a year (there are 5 of us in the family as I have 2 younger brothers). My mum refuses to work and every year it's the same thing. My friends all go on holiday and I have nobody to socialise with during the most part of the holidays. It's not fair. I work hard at school and feel so sad that I've never been on holiday. What are some cheap but fun things to do on your own in the holidays? My friends phone me up to speak to me etc but it's not the same...
Also, my dad won't let me get a weekend job because it will 'get in the way of my studies'.

Wait till you're 16 and go on holidays with your mates instead.

Am in the exact same position OP and I can't afford to go on holidays with mates, either.
I just end up wasting time on the internet :p:

At least you're doing well in school, get a good job and then go on all the holidays you want

    16------->job------------>save----------->holiday (if you're desperate)
and also ensure to concentrate on your education so you can get a good long term career rather than the aforementioned short-term job and then you'll have brill hols to enjoy

Do some volunteering in your community - you can go on volunteering holidays too

Why does your mother refuse to work? Just out of curiosity.

Find someone who can drive; random day trip or weekend away, even in the UK is a decent change of scenery and breaks the daily habit/routine.

Doesn't beat a holiday, but still.

Family holidays are over-rated, and I'm not just saying that to cheer you up. We end up going somewhere far too hot so we're all moody, we're cramped into a small space together for a week or two and just fight constantly, and there's no way of escaping anywhere or to anyone. I didn't go this year for the first time, instead I've got a job, and to be honest when my mum came back (yesterday) and told me about it, I didn't feel like I'd missed out at all.

Maybe that's just my family though...

Just work hard, try to make some money and treat yourself. It's unfortunate your family shares such financial circumstances, but they've not gone either so it's not only just unfair on you. If family holidays have not been possible, then after 16 maybe start working save up some money and have a nice little holiday away with your mates.

you could try and get a working holiday if you want to go away? working at a holiday camp in a hot country or anything really. or get a job at home or join some clubs to meet more people so then all of them won't be away at the same time?

think about stuff you enjoy doing (sport, gaming, whatever floats your boat) and look for clubs in your area?

Maybe you could go camping with your friends when they get back (if your parents let you), even going somewhere not exciting and local is fun with friends

you don't NEED a holiday, you want it and it's a nice little bonus. don't worry too much about it, you've still got the rest of your own life to go on holiday. x

    You're 15, don't you have a free bus pass?
Travel in your own city and pretend to be a tourist or that you're in Spain instead :ninja: Use your imagination.
