Few people I know have been saying that you can ring the uni the day before results are published and they will tell you if you have got in. Just curious as to whether this is true?!

I don't think it is, and if they did know the day before I don't think they would say.

So you can find out a day before, which would then give you an extra day to be happy or come up with a contingency plan :dontknow:

i think unis know on the monday/tuesdays, schools know on the wednesday, and then kids know on the thursday.

Its set up like this so the unis can plan a little - i dont know why they would give them to you, but i also dont know why they wouldnt - but unis are probably going to be really busy sorting out **** and wont have time to answer you and just tell you to naff off - but anyone who has done it - please enlighten us

You might as well wait that extra day.

There's no harm in a quick call to your uni anyway.
Its not like you have to pay or anything.

Schools at least have access to the results from the Wednesday - which gives them time to check them, print them, work out statistics, and highlight those who will need support on results day itself. They'll not give them to students, though.

Clearly results day is pointless then, if you can get your results the day before.

Plus, I imagine it would be rather tedious for the person dealing with such phone calls.

Patience is a virtue and all that

But I only have free weekend calls it costs to call during the day

OP, just call them, not like your going to lose anything, this way you can plan for clearing and stuff, get your head in shape..

Aren't they legally not allowed to say until results day?

Several reasons, which should be obvious to anyone of the meanest intelligence, never mind the cream of Britain's young brains

They are embargoed from declaring results until results day; they may not yet have decided (not everyone will get to know on results day); and you may end up irritating someone who is key to making a decision about you before thay have made that decision and, if you are borderline, your selfish interruption may put them off wanting to teach you for three or four years.

    Don't call.

OK from experience I can tell you that unis are not allowed to give you your results.

However, if you call them early on results day and act as though you know your results they will let you know whether you got in. Usually it's on UCAS before then though.

The universities know the week before, but they are legally barred by UCAS from telling you anything until results day.

Edit: which I see GoodBloke has already said. Damn that man and his speedy responses :p:
