..how come we need so much information on reproduction (in the form of sex education, porn and general media) and then there's animals, who sort of, just know. Like would we really figure it out if left to our own devices? I know someone in the past must have done some serious 'trial and error' but just speaking generally for todays generation.

Random thought popped up in my head so thought I'd ask.

But can other animals build dams? Use fiendish strategies in a battle to checkmate the opposition? Build a sophisticated network of tunnels stretching miles, underground?

    Oh crap...

The point of sex education is to encourage safe sex. Porn is hardly information on reproduction.
Without these forms of information the human race would still be able to reproduce, after all if we didn't have this knowledge we wouldn't be here.
Even as toddlers we are inadvertently aware of certain aspects of our sexuality, say touching certain areas feels good. This is more or less natures way of encouraging reproduction.

To some people what makes us smarter than animals is that we no longer run solely to survive. Yes we eat and reproduce but we also think and create art, build buildings and create cities.

However we are at the top of the food chain, but does this make us truly smarter than animals? We are in a position where many of the laws of nature no longer apply, we are striving to make a comfortable life for the entire human race, which is leading to overpopulation as well as the slow destruction of our planet.

Animals act on instinct. Humans would if we didn't have a social system like we do.

It's late - I hardly phrased this thread well. I was just asking without the info, would people really know how to have sex just how, say rats, just know without exterior info. wasn't trying to undermine human intelligence or anything.

    No, I was:p:
Yes I would be fairly sure two people without any prior knowledge of sexual intercourse could have sex if they were together long enough.
Both male and females discover masturbation naturally and sex isn't that big a jump from that if the couple have a sexual attraction / crush on each other.

Those animals that "just know" have environment-based reproduction cycles.

Humans have no such natural breeding mechanism. Also, humans have unique and highly complex psychological processes. We take longer to learn and mature, but we can also learn much more. And humans and primates in general rely more on social nurturing as opposed to certain instincts, a strong parental/guardian upbringing is required for the proper development of human beings.
The ideal parentage requirements of many humans are not being met.
