5 Days in Amsterdam watch

i got back from amsterdam on monday and no way was it more expensive than london!

for the trams, i got a 'strippenkaart' which is a strip of tickets for the trams, you stamp it every 3 hours or so. sometimes we didn't bother so we could save our money and the conductors on the trams didn't care. if questioned, just say you didn't realise. either this, or a ticket for a set number of hours (you can get a 72 hour ticket, not sure about 5 day one), this might be best for you since you'll be using trams a lot, we were quite close to the center.

the food isn't bad, you can easily find cheap places, just go off down one of the streets by the canals. there's usually a single restaurant and a couple of bars and shops. on the first night we had a massive meal with drinks for 20 euros, it only gets expensive if you eat in the center where places like the Hard Rock Cafe are.

if you want souvenirs, defo shop around. i bought some VERY cool clog slippers for 15 euros and they were being sold for 30 elsewhere. the rude postcards and sex shops are defo worth a look, gives a good laugh!

bike rental is cheap, so are the museums. if you're going to anne franks house, i suggest you pre-book tickets on the internet. they have a side door where you can walk straight in if you've already paid, the que for tickets stretched right down the street when we went on friday.

i took £300 for 5 days with me which was easily enough and i ate out every day (lunch and dinner) and went out for drinks later.

you won't need more than £300 i reckon, especially if you eat your dry food from home and buy breakfast etc. from the supermarket (their supermarket food is much better than englands). but it all depends how much you're going to drink each night. cider/beer was about 2.50 euros and spirits were about 4 euros per measure in pubs and bars. they could be cheaper in clubs, but for some funny reason, i can't remember buying any drinks!

if you want to know anything else, i can try and answer

    thanks alot man
    great help!

I just came back last friday and if u plan 2 spend most of u're time in coffee shops then that will be biggest expense as u spend more on drinks than the actual bud u smoke!! It's between 2 and 3 euro's per drink in the centre but gets cheaper the further out u go. Get a bike it's an amazing city 2 cycle round and dirt cheap 2 hire. I reckon £350 will be enough as i spendf less than that for 4 full days just depends on how many museums/torist attractions u visit plus how much the bud gives u the muches/ need 4 drinks??

I went for a weekend and only spent around €80 and I spent €30 on clothes, the rest was drink and meals. Really quite cheap over there.

Deffo hire bikes, that was about €10 for the day I think.

Water over there was ridiculously expensive, €2.50 everywhere I went, was shocked!!!
