    Hi guys

I have had a change in plans now will be doing an MA in International Relations hopefully in October. I have 4 examinations pending - 2 which I didnt even pass and 2 I was very sick to sit- these were due to extenuating circumstances i had.( i didnt however notify university of these, though I will not be capped for the two exams i missed).

Right, I will end up graduating with a low 2.2 when i get full results Sep 15th. I have emaild the head of IR at Warwick, Nottingham and Manchester , and they have stated I should send an application in and that there is ' a clear possibility of being accepted despite my 2.2' . I have also notified them about the exams and they believe they wont be an obstacle. What they require is that my referees highlight my 2.1 ability and my dissertation maqrk in which I achieved a mid 2.1 . As I did LLB Law my dissertation was however based on International - Politics which helps.

The problem I now face is, that my referees are not back til 10th Aug and i notified the departments about this. They have stated it is not a problem and they can get references later. ON THE APPLICATION FORM IT SAYS THAT I can upload transcripts till today, though I am not sure if I should as of yet? As my transcript will illustrate low marks and 2 very bad marks which i didnt pass??
Should I upload the transcript or wil my referees send this off? am hoping they will accept me requring a 2.2 and my referees can then send my references and transcripts? I am confused.

I am not sure what the department requires, they have just stated send in the application which i have filled in and attatched a statement and put down my end classification is pending. Also, I have wrote in my statement on two lines I will get a 2,2 but am capable of 2.1 work. I am just confused on the last part where you have the option to upload scanned transcripts?

Qualification (e.g. BA, BSc, BEng etc.). Back to Top

Please enter the qualification type, e.g. BA, BSc, BEng etc. This should exactly match the qualification type as it appears on your transcript or certificate.

    Main subjects. Back to Top

Please give details of the main subject areas/specialisms you studied as part of your qualification.

do I just list all the subjects I have studied or put in the marks aswell?

On the last page of the application - there is the heading - SUPPORTING D
    OCS.

In order to assist us in making a decision on your application, you will need to provide evidence of your previous qualifications. You can either post these in hard copy to the Admissions Office or attach scanned documents below (PDF and jpeg files only).

Attached PDF files must not be password protected or be in the "Slideshow" format. PDF files which are attached in this state will slow your application process.

If you have additional documents which you wish to submit electronically please email them to [email protected] including your applicant id number which will be given to you when you have submitted your application.

Please do not send supporting documents via email if you have already posted them to us.

N.B. Current or former University of Nottingham students do not need to provide a transcript of their studies at Nottingham, as the Admissions Office has access to this information.

    Transcript
A document detailing your academic performance on your current/most recent course. If these are available, please upload them.

Should I attatch a transcript now or will this hinder my application, despite the admissions tutor stating there is a clear possibility with a 2.2 Bt I hav not stated anything about the two exams I have done terrible in,

Not to be rude, but you've had *loads* of help on TSR. I don't think someone else should be filling in the application form for you.

maybe i did not phrase my query correctly.

my Q is - Should I load a transcript of my results til this date or not? Or should I wait till I am given an offer which will be for a 2.2, and then my referees will send transcripts with references in mid Aug. If i upload my transcript now it will show my bad marks of 2 modules i am resitting.

    what should I do?

And please reply to what I have written in my firs post of this thread.

They are going to find out your grades sooner or later. I dont think it would make any difference if you were to upload your transcript now, or afterwards.

In short very good. It may not be up there with LSE and Oxford for IR but it in the group of next best things. They have just introduced a new IR MSci degree which is the only undergrad of its type in the country and has some of the top academics in the field of IR (ie Aldrich, Wylie, Thornton, Danchev and Rees). It certainly did better than St Andrews in the last RAE (which is very overrated for IR in this country).

In the UK for IR it goes:

    LSE
    Oxford
    Aberw

    gap

    Cambridge
    Essex
    St Andrews
    Nottingham
    Warwick
    Kings (only for war studies)
    York is also pretty good.

It probably doesnt have quite the same rep as Warwick, the same if not better than Kings (which only really specialises in war studies) and better than the rest.

ive actually heard Kings MA IR is very reputable though as it part of the war studies department there is a lot of emphasis on security and conflict, right?

is the MA IR at notthingham reputable overseas?
I know that SOAS- is well known for being a specialist in african/ asian studies, warwick - globalisation and intl trade, LSE-is just top notch, kings-war studies, but what about Nottingham?

Im jut worried as they might hinder my application? where as I may get an offer now for a 2.2 and then send my trnascripts later and it wont matter what i got in moduleS?

Can anyone PM me so i can send it for you to check and give me feedback on?

Could you read the following personal statement for IR and let me know what you think of it? Any mistakes, changes to be made? Too much emphasis on Pakistan? I never notifed uni of extenuating circumstances but u think its okay i mentioned it? As i will be graduating with a 2.2 and the head of department at nottm and warwick said there is a clear possibilty of being accepted with a 2.2, as long as referees demonstrate i have 2.1 ability.

Kings is very well-known for IR but it has more emphasis on security issues. To be honest I would be worrying a little less about where your degree is from, and go for what actually interests you. You'll be having 12 months of intense work on your courses, you need to be passionate about it! From what I heard Nottingham was good for IPE and Theory. Just a thought, have you looked at Sussex? I am (slightly) biased but cannot fault the faculty and they have a very good pastoral system so may be more sympathetic to your mitigating circumstances.
