Just found this and wanted to share:

    http://thesietch.org/mysietch/greens...f-sufficiency/

Basically you can supposedly grow all the vegetables and fruit (and chicken) you need on about 1/4 of an acre - 100ft x 100ft or about 30m x 30m - not a lot at all.

What do you think? Is anyone tempted to try? (I am :p: )

Are they saying for 1 person for the whole year on 1/4 of an acre??

My parents grow loads of veggies etc. as they wanna be self sufficient. It's way bigger than 1/4 an acre of veggies, but i suppose its for more than 1 person.

I'd love to try that :yep: Apart from the chickens, I'd never be able to eat something that'd lived and grown up on my mini 'farm.'

Probably is possible in theory but it presumes that there is no loss due to pests/bad weather. I suspect you'd need a fair bit more land if you factor that in. I'm trying to organically grow veg in my garden but I've lost a lot to slugs. At least they're getting their five a day. Bah.
