Sodium Chlorate (NaClO) decomposes slowly and gives off oxygen according to the ionic equation: 2ClO- ---------> 2Cl- + O2. Cobalt(II) Nitrate can be used a catalyst. Explain how you would investigate whether it's the cobalt ions or nitrate ions which were responsible for catalytic action? I know that it's cobalt but how would I investigate it? Is it electrolysis?

Try Cobalt (II) sulphate and Potassium Nitrate and see which one still has a catalytic effect (you expect it to be the Cobalt Sulphate if it is the cobalt ions acting as the catalyst).
That actually sounds good, because Potassium not a transition metal and probably woouldn't make speed up the reaction. Thanks very much. Appreciated. This wasn't for a test or anything, just general knowledge,
