Choose a good strong topic that you'd have plenty to talk about in defence of or against!

Such as animal testing, gay marriage, abortion, size zero models etc

    The environment?

Or you could just churn out an emotionally-persuasive anecdote.

Just do it on something completely random
I did my english oral coursework on 'eggs'. It was a 15 minute speech/ presentation. I hate powerpoint and refuse to use it. Anyway, got full marks, and it stood out because it was so different, people remember it.
The subject doesn't really matter, I'd be more worried about 'how' you're going to do it. A structure for your speech and its components etc.

There was this show on the BBC calledThe speaker and here is the link to the auditions for it

It should give you some inspiration to write a good speech

i particularly like the one about immigration

Something that you'll find interesting otherwise it'll be boring and you probably will have a worse speech than the detail you'd have if it was a speech on something you liked.

Our teacher used to always talk about audience participation - would be curious to see how it was employed in a "speech" of this kind!
