Well, I guess it would depend on which aspect of textiles you're most interested in. I'm primarily interested in surface pattern/print and here are some books I own and like:

    http://www.amazon.com/Twentieth-Cent...9433847&sr=8-4
-for a general overview of 20th century textile design, has some really good examples.

    http://www.amazon.com/Over-Catalog-H...9434018&sr=8-1
-this is more about pattern design in general than about textiles, but I personally found it interesting since that is my main focus

    http://www.amazon.com/Textiles-Now-D...9434069&sr=8-1
-haven't got around to buying this yet but have seen it around a lot in bookstores. It provides a very comprehensive view of contemporary textile design, with a lot of good examples from a variety of areas.

    http://www.amazon.com/Textile-Design...d_bxgy_b_img_b
-haven't bought or looked through these two either but they seem to be coming up a lot in book reviews and such. I think both are fairly new and focus on contemporary textile design

These are just some books I've personally come across and liked, not an absolute list of the best and most recommended books I'm starting my MA in textiles in september at Chelsea.
