I quite like being alone sometimes. I adore my friends, but it's peaceful and I think it's important that you can be OK with being by yourself...I personally don't really care what people think about me at all. Symptom of living in London.

I don't like the idea of people thinking I don't want to speak to them or that I don't like socialising because that isn't true. I try to not be bothered by going out on my own if people see me and ask who I'm with and I'm like no one. I can feel self conscious because I do care what people think of me but going out alone is something that I enjoy and is better sometimes like shopping! If I'm with friends I just talk to them and I need all my concentration to shop!

In my experience, if people think/know you're a loner, they will try to avoid you. There is a stigma attached to being seen with a loner...nobody wants to be that loner's first friend. And therein lies the problem. As a loner, you simply cannot make friends because people put up a barrier between themselves and you, for the sake of their own image and reputation.

If only you had made a little effort to be approachable to begin with then none of that stigma would be present. OK, people may not exactly like you as a good friend, but they wouldn't feel obliged to avoid you either.

Sometimes people cannot help it, they want to be sociable but lack the confidence to click with loads of people and expand their network.

People see me as a loner, and strangely many of them want to be my friend. Of course i dont want to have a close friend who dont understand me and depend on me too much.. im happy being on my own.

Say if people saw you alone all/most of the time becaue you were quiet and enjoyed your own company or something, well would it bother you if others thought you were a loner honestly? Would you be ashamed of being a loner? Or would you be proud of it? If so why?
Been a quiet keep-to-myself guy all my life and people know that I'm a bit of a loner and I really don't care. What does bother me is that because of this, I've never had a girlfriend or never really done anything with a female. Oh well, as long as I get a good grad job its all worth it since thats what I came to Uni for.
