Ok, I stopped taking the contraceptive pill microgynon 30 in jan after splitting up with my boyfriend as I wanted to give my body a break from it. I had 3 normal periods after this, but have missed 4.. I spoke to my mum about it and she said theres a chance I could have pcos as she has it (my periods were iregular before) . theres no chance I could be pregnant as i have not had sex (and would be 8 months by now).. apart from an incident with my new boyfriend last monday where the condom broke and I had to take the morning after pill (on the 12 hour mark) My question is, would I be able to start a new pill now or will I have to wait until my period arrives? I'm hopefully going to the doctors tomorrow.. does anyone have an idea as to what they will do?
Sorry if this sounds confusing... not really sure how to word it

They will make you wait till your next period, as the morning after pill is not completely efficient so after taking it theres a small chance of still being pregnant (it depends how soon after having unprotected sex you took it - the sooner you took it the more efficient it is) You can't take the contraceptive pill whilst pregnant as it can cause serious damage to the embryo so doctor ask you to wait til you have the first day of your next period to take it. If you think you have pcos I'd also talk to your doctor about this at the appointment as I've heard that the pill can be used differently to help relieve it whilst acting as a contraceptive!

I've known people to take the pill straight away however it's not completely effective until a month after starting to take it, which means using condoms until they are 100% effective.
Also it is simpler to take it during your period as it also regulates them. I would say you need to talk to your doctor anyway if you fear you have PCOS as he will need to test that.

Thanks for the replies I have been down to the doctors this morning, I have been booked in for a blood test on wednesday to check my female hormones and my thyroid function. I have also been given a different type of pill (cilest) I have been told its best to wait until my next period or if I start them now, to wait 7 days before having sex.
