I've got about £250 worth of coins from 1's and 2's to 20's it's an absolute heep of coin bags. About 70 so far and still counting them.

Halifax said I can only cash in 5 bags per person per day...

What on earth is that about? Are banks just a joke these days?

I have a barclays account so i'm going to take them there first and hope they'll take more. But that's just a serious joke... do they enforce this rule?

Must be recent because never had this in my experience. What a farce ! means you may be used to forced to use those coin to cash machines which take quite a bit of money off how much you have

I think the 5 bags per person rule is to stop people coming in with bags upon bags when it's busy. At least that's the reason I've heard.

You could go in and explain, and ask if there is any potential for you to be able to do it at a quiet time. Perhaps you could go to the business counter (there's one in every HBOS even the wee ones).

I've never seen anything like that. It's absurd. Just use a different bank account. You can always electronically transfer it back into the Halifax account. I regularly cash in more than that with Natwest.

In the HSBC (at least my one so I imagine lots) they have a machine that counts it for you...I always empty my tip jar into my account whenever I pass. I guess I could just change it up at work!

Or shops will be happy to change it...they pay for change bags from banks!

I use two different banks, both of which have these restrictions. I can understand them limiting it if they are busy, but if there is no one else about it is quite absurd.
