I want to take a gap-year after finishing the 4th year next june. I'm confused about whether it would be best to take it before the pre-reg year or after.

if i take it before the pre-reg year i will get more pharmacy experience so i don't forget things . as well as adding to my CV is a positive way.

any advice or opinions would be appreciated

Take it after, your free then, no training, no exams, qualifications that need to be gained in your life ever once you've completed! Come on, your almost at the finish line!

Couldn't you get your experience during the gap year after?

from what i have read you have to take the pre-reg exam within 3 years after graduating, so i thought one year off would be fine.

I guess I could take it after the pre-reg year, but then i thought i would forget a lot since when i'm back i would be working as a pharmacist.

or if i take it after the 4th year, i would go travelling for 2-3 months but after i'm back i was going to get a job in a pharmacy (part-time) which i thought would prepare me better for the pre-reg year and do some other things that i need to which can't be possible with a full time job.

at the moment i'm still confused.

    thanks for replying

Personally, I'd prefer to get my pre-reg year completed and once qualified maybe consider some travelling so I would have less to worry about.

But it does seem a good idea if you are seriously considering travelling, to come back and work in a pharmacy part-time as you said. It will help get your mind back on pharmacy and help you in the pre-reg year.

It really depends on how you are as a person, because if I was to take a gap year before pre-reg I know it would take a lot of effort to get back in gear and focus on training again cause I always tend to put things off until the very last minute.

Why not do it after your pre-reg? You can be a locum so you can give yourself a 6-months holiday to travel. Be your own boss

Maybe u can try locum for a few months so that you're know by a few pharmacist, who will probably be happy to have you as locum again after your traveling.

I will most likely take some time off after the pre-reg year since this is what most people have told me including my tutor.
