Oxbridge - not the be all and end all

With oxbridge interviews & offers coming up I would just like 2 say that oxbridge is not the be all and end all. If u get rejected so what there are plenty of other good unis to go to. If you get an offer don't just automatically put it down as ur first choice. Think about the other offers u have. Oxbridge is not always the best 2 go to e.g. for Medicine oxbridge is definately not the best. I told my teacher that if I got an offer for oxbridge I was quite prepared 2 reject Oxford and she said that I was the first person 2 say that and I'm quite surprised. Don't just think that oxbridge is the best. it isn't necessarily. Btw I am applying to Oxford for psychology & philosophy to St-John's. No interview letter yet.

Anyone who is short sighted enough to think that Oxbridge IS the be all and end all probably does not deserve to go there in the 1st place.

Well from what I can gather from a lot of people's posts, all they care about in life is getting into oxbridge and think the world will end if they don't. I personally wouldn't go ox/cam if they ofered me a place - not that I would ever apply in the first place.

I havn't heard a single person adopt this viewpoint.

Care to qualify that with an explanation?

Well you have either not been around very much or you are also a oxbridge applicant in which case you have probably been blinded by the same 'oxbridge disorder'.

Basically there are loads of people on here who create the impression that they MUST get into Oxbridge as a degree from any other Uni is not worth the paper it is written on. If you need me to qualify it any further just scroll back afew pages and look at some of the threads!

I really can't be bothered as I have better things to do than to dig through loads of threads full of 'blinkered' people all being hearded towards the golden gates of oxbridge. In other words, it bores me silly. Have a look yourself.

I can verify that - there are plenty of threads out there where the originator is moaning that if (s)he does not get into Oxbridge they are a faliure and all other Universities are worthless!
