I saw one of the instructors at the gym i've ended up at over the summer (the only one with a squat rack) talking with one of their friends. They said, deadly seriously, to the other "I think it's drugs". Then the instructor came over and said
    'what is that?'.
    Me - "Err it's chalk".
    Instructor - "What?"
Me - "Chalk powder, for grip"
Instructor - *still confused* ... oh sorry you're not allowed that kind of stuff here
Me - *sigh* can I check with the manager please...

    :s:
rofl. I've not seen any of the weight lifters in my gym use chalk, maybe I just miss seeing them because of the times I go to the gym at. Gloves, yes, but I see no chalk.

What was the reason for not being allowed chalk?

Potentially a mess thing, most people over chalk which leaves chalk on the bar and floor. Also actually reduces friction between the bar and hands, but meh.

As for OP, isnt a hack squat done with a DB? Iv never done them so have no clue what their actually like, and sticking to front squats is probably best.
