What's the internet situation with on-campus accommodation?

Good news guys.
They have a new provider for on-campus accom this year starting for freshers week 09', so I am sure it will be an improvement (lets face it I think its impssible not to be)

Where did you find that out? That's good news for when I get back for final year then.

We'll still have to pay for it I presume. I doubt they'd include it in the rent.

Studentcom.

The existing service provided by Keycom will cease in standard accommodation on
Monday 24 August and in Lakeside Residences on Friday 18 September. The new service
is planned to commence in all accommodation on or around 19th September. If you live
in Lakeside residences remember not to sign up with Keycom for next year!

The University WiFi Internet access will continue to be provided in Lawrence, Dalton
and Stafford Tower lounges so if you live in standard accommodation you will be able
to use this. You can also access the Internet in the Library and the Students'
Guild.

We regret any inconvenience you may experience during this transition period but we
believe that Studentcom will provide a much improved service. If you have any
concerns with respect to the transfer process then please contact Residential
Services on [email protected].

Interesting. Studentcom sounds suspiciously like keycom rebranding, but hopefully it isn't. Good news for students, although wireless still won't be good enough for gaming and other such activities.

I would be impressed if they managed to give worse service than keycom

what do they mean by the wifi? isn't that internet in itself i'm confused.

so why doesn't it work in the bedrooms for example?

be interesting to see how much it is, might just have to sit in the lounge at night for a bit with my laptop or something.
