    doesn't that rule only work when using logs...

    may be a stab in the dark I have forgotten most of higher maths already!

    Kirsten is right, the bit after the equals should be a to the power of m plus n though

    I think it works with logs if the base of the logs are the same. :p: But it does work with 'normal' numbers as well.

    Top tip: put a backslash in front of log: \log rather than log.
