Course not. Most the threads that are accused of being started by trolls are either moaning, way over the top or could be solved by general common sense. Even if they weren't trolls, they're terrible terrible threads. Can anyone really expect a serious answer from the internet anyway?

Having a postcount limit before people can post in H&R would probably help a lot. It's understandable having the academic forums open to all, but H&R is abused way more often than it's helpful.

Personally, if there is a choice between labelling someone a troll, who may be real and genuinely hurt, and mistakenly sticking up for someone who is getting horrific amounts of abuse but later turns out to be a troll, I would go for the second option every time. Better to look a bit silly than to cause someone hurt.

What the hell? I'd have thought starting a new thread would be a good way of introducing yourself to the forum - for anyone, not just trolls!
so they could go & start a thread in the 'new members' section, or just a generic, 'hi, im new here' thread

as with anything, take a little bit of time to learn how it works, settle in etc etc

trolls arnt around to do that, so start new threads straight away.

To be fair, she doesn't make gay threads in H&R.

If you're asking, you probably make them.

What if someone joins because the need a question answered?
Or if they're excited due to having a first date coming up?

most questions in the world have been answered already

im pretty sure its also possible to find those answers, or at least ones that can be built on
    forum search? google? bing!

    or they could post anonymously

Perhaps not everyone who gets called a troll actually is one, but a lot of them are sexists, racists and bigots, so they may as well be.
