    Hi

I've been invited to a group interview for a Trainee reporter's position at a local paper, it's my first journalism job interview since finishing Uni and I'm thrilled about having an opportunity like this.

Anyone know or have an idea what will be involved in this group interview? I'm guessing it will involve tasks on journalism related issues.

I'm just working on doing research on the paper, areas they cover and thinking of questions to ask

Any advice would be hugely appreciated.

    Cheers

Make sure you know the news for that day/ what's going on in the world and in your local area. Sounds obvious so you've probably thought of this already.

You're lucky to be getting an interview with things the way they are in journalism at the moment! I'm sure you already know that though. What qualification did you do?

Yeah I'd buy the paper that week/day so you know what's going on in the area and what their main stories are- also try and get backdated copies so you can familiarise yourself with their style of writing. If they have an website- they probably do- then read that so you can see if their style is different there.

Make sure you know what's going on in the area, in the country and in the world. Who the councillors are in the area (main ones anyway) and what type of council- unitary or two tier- system there is in the area.

Have they asked you to take a portfolio?

I did a BA Honours in Journalism Studies.

I did go the group interview, alongside 10-12 other people, three of whom did trainee work experience at the paper so they were in pole position. Just general chat really, short quizzes, really relaxed atmosphere. I didnt get a one on one interview chance.

I did take my portfolio but wasnt needed at all.

When are you expecting to hear back?
*Jealous* glad it went okay for you though.
