Are you SURE that's true? I was planning on dabbling in the latter (I'm not 21 for another 11 months).

    squish.
Very, very sure. If you're at university you can access the book in your library, written by the folks at the House of Commons.

McKay, W., Hutton, M., Sandall, A. G., Robertson, M., Patrick, S., Wilson, R. (2004). Erskine May's Treatise on the Law, Privileges, Proceedings and Usage of Parliament. London: Butterworths.

Not sure which page number it is as I didn't need it for my essay but it's easily findable. It's probably one of the sections of the previous Representation of the People Act (sometimes referred to as the Great Reform Acts) that have gone unnoticed. It just adds to the issue of the complex idea of adulthood. Voting for someone as an MP but you cannot run one as yourself, just like consenting to sex and not being able to legitimately watch pornographic material I guess.

    Squish!

Yes, you are. She could blackmail the life out of you given the chance - you have no idea.

Seriously, in prison people will pass your ass around like a peace-pipe. It aint worth it.
Is it still 17 in northern ireland?

I met this girl fleetingly a few months ago and bumped into her again last week.

I was speaking to her for ages, about pretty much everything. Music, books, politics, sex, you know. Everything that matters. After a few really long conversations I asked her where she was going to university, assuming she was 17/18. I'm 18 but I'm taking another year in college for medical/personal reasons. They're not important.

She's not even finished her GCSEs yet, and isn't 16 for the best part of a year.

As you'd imagine I was shocked but she talked me down a bit. She's been with lads my age before, and even brought them back to the house and her parents didn't mind. They're not dodgy parents, she's very intelligent and mature and lives in a really nice area, they're just 'progressive'.

I've sort of taken a step back but I don't know what to do. She's incredibly mature and makes me feel like a child sometimes, and I consulted with one of our mutual friends and she said on paper it was perfect, apart from the age thing. It's not as if I sought her out for her age, it's just an unlucky kick in the face.

Am I in the right to take a step back? Part of me is doubting it.
Take a step back for the best part of a year, then continue

(Correct me if the legal age of consent isnt 16, im not certain  )

15 and 18 isn't really that much of an age difference, especially if you're both mature. Although that does reach the limit, it doesn't go over it.

    Go for it!

Yup, I think it's changing soon though. I like 17 better than 16, the law is only used to prosecute weirdos sleeping with girls 40+ years younger than them.

18 would be even better because that's really all the law is used for. A 20 year old would never be arrested for sleeping with someone 17/18, but a 60 year old paedophilic would.

    I think 17s about right, not 18.

    18 / 2 = 9

    9 + 7 = 16.

OP do not touch her for 3 reasons:

    1) You will go to jail

    2) TSR/your parents/friends will call you a peado

    3) You will be breaking the rules of the formula!

I'm trusting my judgement with this and going for it on a trial basis. I honestly don't think I've ever liked anybody this much, it's worrying. Hoping she doesn't mind lying to my mates about her age.

    Thanks for the opinions.

Age gaps like that are pretty normal, it sounds like you're comfortable with her otherwise anyway. And as for the statuatory rape issue, tons of people have sex when under 16, it'd only matter if she was gonna tell on you.

There's no need to wait for something like her becoming 'legal'. That is only in place for 40year olds going after 16 year old girls. The authorities don't care if you're like 18.
    Good luck in prison :top:

Like many people in the thread, i'd say it's okay, the age gap isn't much. If you don't think you can last a year without having sex with her though, i'd stay away personally. Not worth risking throwing your life away with the possible consequences.

Good luck with it either way

There's a difference between underage sex, and sex with a minor.
