I'm about to buy this calc for MU120 from www.oxford-educational.co.uk
and they have quite a few of that model but the two above are mentioned
in the prep pack.

The TI83 is about £54 and the plus version is about £60, should I pay
the extra for the new style?

Also do O.U students get any discount on these?

Cheers

I was worried about that myself so I asked my tutor, she said that the
TI83 would be fine so that's what I got. If the shop that I had gone to
had the TI83 Plus I would have bought that instead though.

I believe so but I didn't buy mine online so I couldn't give you any
details, sorry.

Good luck with your course Mark!

Better to get the TI-83 plus - the TI-83 is going out of production and
the plus has additional features. Oxford educational give ou discounts
but isn't less than you quote - scroll to bottom of their page or
telephone them, Jim "Kavzool" <[email protected]> wrote in message

Mark,

I believe that the T183 is being phased out so is best to go for the
TI83 Plus. The price difference is less than £2 for OU students (TI83
plus = £51.83 & TI83 = £50.13).

Try this link:
http://workx.superb.net/oes/oes.cgi/...E?yKAayKjY;;27 or go to
the oxford educational site and do a search on MU120.

Good luck.

Hello Mark, have just seen your note regarding the T183 Calculator I did
the course last year and purchased the TI83 at £54, I had seen the plus
version and felt that it did not warrant the extra expense. Mine is
currently gathering dust in the cupboard so if you would like it for £30
plus pp please let me know.

Regards

Hi Mark I did MU120 2001 and the TI-83 is good enough, you wont really
need the better version, and yes students do get discount!! Saying
that though, six pounds difference is not a lot and if your going to do
further maths courses then it may be useful to buy the + version, I did
MU120 but am carrying on with other courses not maths. Good luck with
MU120 you'll enjoy it Glenn

Hi.

As an OU vet (6 years and counting now...should graduate this year) of
only maths courses, I'd say that you should get the best model you can
afford. My 'other half' did one of the math foundation suite a few years
ago and bought the recommended TI80...Now it's almost useless and always
way a bit of a dog! If you can afford it, go for the TI89...although it
does a lot more than you'll need for MU120 you won't have to get a
better calculator for later courses. I have a TI92+ and can heartily
recommend the 89/92+ (which are functionally identical, just the 92 has
a slightly larger screen and a qwerty keyboard) which are very powerful
machines. I'm also an HP calculator fan and have an HP49G which is my
main calculator.

Enjoy MU120...the other math courses are very good too. :-)

Regards
