20 in the morning and 20 at night and you should see a bit of difference in a couple of weeks.Go running too...that is a miracle worker for tummies! x x x

and cut down the calories... if there's a layer of fat over the muscle, the definition won't show.

Lay off the fizzy drinks too, they make you bloated. I'm going to try this stuff called Dida. Apparently if you eats lots of white bread, pasta, drink lots of fizz etc you can get this fungus type thing in your tummy. This gives it a pot-belllied look. Dida clears up the fungus. It had better work...I think it was about £30!
stomach crunches work better than sit-ups for me

hmm... sounds slightly dodgy to me... but give it a go and let us know if it works...

a good thing for bloating is drinking lots of water... if you're body is properly hydrated, it won't need to hang on to water in your tissues...
i think fibre helps and avoiding salt and fixxy drink

is it actually possible for a woman to be normal weight and have a completely flat belly eg the area from under the breast down to the pubic hair region totally flat?

i really think no matter how much excersise you do, u'll always have a slight bump just above the pubic region where the tummy ends. there's no way round it.

If you want a decent tummy you need to lose fat, not do situps.

I have a completely flat tummy. With defined bits down the sides. I used to do 300 sit ups a day though. Calmed down now - but that definitely got me the tummy i wanted. xx

imasillynarb - only if you have excess fat in that area - if you want to define your tummy you need to work out the muscle. xx

yeh i was thinkin ure a girl rite? well if u did sit up's wouldnt you just end up gettin muscles (as in a manly 6 pack) or would you actually get a nice toned stomach?

I don't have a six pack. WHat you shouldn't do is weighted sit ups - that will increase your muscle definition too much. Loads of reps with no weight should be fine for a girl. If you feel like you're going too far and you don't like how you are looking just stop doing so much. xx

it's quite difficult for girls to get a six pack due to the nature of their abdomen. the trick would be to get the amount of definition you wanted, then ease into a routine that will keep up that definition, without building on it or letting it reduce.

If you want to define the muscle you need to lose fat, like I said.

Running to get rid of the excess fat and then sit-ups to shape the tummy up!

So instead of doing a few sets/reps a month(which is all you would need if you were doing weighted crunches) you recommend doing 300 situps every morning? Brilliant advice! You realise doing 300 situps a day will have done almosst nothing with regards to increasing your abdominal muscle size?

Its extremely hard for girls to get a 6-pack.

In conclusion, 'define' and 'tone' mean **** all. Keep to, lose fat, or build muscle.

Definition does mean something though...its how defined your muscle is, which is controlled by how much bodyfat is surrounding it.

Agreed though, toned means sweet FA and it annoys me when people use that word!
do ergs! 2k once a week!

do ergs! 2k once a week!

do them properly... ask an instructor... i see so many people doing them incorrectly and they're just damaging their back and exercising incredibly inefficiently.

and i'd probably say start off doing 10 mins twice a week at rate 22 as part of your normal workout and build it from there. try to keep your 500m split time as low as possible, i.e. push as hard as possible with your legs, to get maximum benefit
