I know for a fact not so much work exp is needed from just about everyone in my family who has studied medicine. It does not matter at all, even if you have a few days then it;s fine, you don't need a year in Tanzania or something crazy helping millions of deprived kids in orphanages, or you don't have to find a cure for cancer, so calm down. As long as you can talk for a long time about any work experience or loads about why you want to be a doctor that's all you need.....
Thank God, somebody who has a balanced approach to this!

You need some experience and some insight, but you don't need loads or anything amazing

    Hi.
Fortunately for both of us there is a protocol to follow in scenarios like these. Just follow the below instructions and we will be halfway there to sorting this whole mess out.
    Are you;
    a) A medical student or an 09 applicant currently holding an offer?
    b) A 2010 applicant
    c) An uninvolved party with some personal knowledge of the medical applications process.
    d) A lay person

Now follow the instruction that correlates with your chosen answer
    a) Take no further action
    b) Continue to post what you know to be true because it's, like, totally obvious that you aren't getting in unless you are the captain of the the Hockey team and have at least 3000 hours of Surgical experience
    c) Post what you totally heard, even if you can't remember where you did. But it's still totally legit.
    d) Inexplicably lurk in medical application threads and make useless comments.

Thank you for participating in the government's new protocol for these incidents.
Im just saying you dont have to approach this by insulting people, I GET IT
jeez your not the only one with information about the application process
im just gonna keep on doing my work experience and you do yours

Is it really that hard to get work experience?

I'm 16 and I'm starting a 2 week work experience next week, shadowing a doctor in a hospital.

It depends on where you live and the number of opportunities available in that area and the number of other people trying to get a place on the same work experience you are going for.
