I'm gonna apply for math with stat at oxford.
Would the interview be different from the one of math?
I mean, will the questions be more about stat than math? And, will the applicants be divided into distinct groups based on the course they are applied for...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but there won't be any distinctive differences in the interview, unless the tutor decides that since you've shown interest in stats they might ask you some.

I think that you can even apply for maths, and it is only in the second year that the maths&stats modules appear so you can decide then.

I always thought Maths & Stats applicants got additional statistics interviews (but the maths interview is probably more important).

There's no official difference - that is, you don't get any extra/less/different interviews. In the first year, it's the same course and it only gets different in the latter half of the second year. I got one statistics question ("I flip an unfair coin five times and the probability of getting one head is the same as getting two heads. What is the probability of getting a head one one flip?") which nobody else was asked, instead of a mechanics question but that's at the discretion of the interviewer, really.

I applied for Maths, accepted the place, and then changed to Maths and Stats at the end of my first year (this wasn't my initial intention, but regardless, it very easy to do!); the Maths and Stats applicants (at Merton) do have a different second interview, which would probably be a little more biased towards Probability (Statistics probably won't be touched at all during an interview, as it's too much based on knowledge rather than thinking!). I wouldn't worry about it - just apply to whichever course you like the look of more. Colleges will generally view the whole pool of Maths and related schools applicants together (i.e. Maths, Maths and Stats, Maths and Phil, Maths and Comp, and at some colleges CompSci will be included too, due to the similarity in the first year), rather than separating out by course.
