If I'm honest. It wasn't that bad.

I had a lot of things to be getting on with during the day, so I kept busy. But I think the hardest part was the evening. Normally, I think they would have open by ~5pm, so once I had done what I needed for the day, it was time to eat.

However, now, once I had finished what I had to do for the day, I still had another ~3 hours to go. Normally I would be binging
Yeah it is always hardest in the evening...well done for keeping this one =D

    music is not haraam....
its only haraam if it has pornographic meaning or if it misleads you to believe idle worship

there is no verse directly prohibiting it

    watch this:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hF94jtwUbvQ
You must be having a laugh, there is no difference of opinion amongst the major school's of thought on regarding music, it is very clear cut, Music is haram.

I think you are the one who needs to watch that video carefully, Dr. Zakir Naik does not say music is NOT haraam, yes they are no direct verses saying that music forbidden but there are indications and there are also authentic ahadiths regarding music being forbidden. I think you should not making something legal according to you because you like doing it and say to others it is allowed, I listen to music as well but there is no denying to that it is haraam, I am trying by best to give it up.

I haven't seen the vid...but this is what i have been taught:

Music is similar to TV, both of which can be compared to a blade. There is nothing wrong with using a blade in a good way (eg cutting fruit and veg), but it is haram to use it in a bad way (eg to hurt/murder someone). TV and music are fine if it does not go against what Islam says (eg watching the news, listening to nasheeds or music without inappropriate content). But it does become haram when you use it unlawfully (eg movies/songs with sexual references)

    Hope that made sense =)

mate, lets be honest, all muslims, even extremists will listen to and possibly play..music, even the prophet (pbuh) listened to music and music has been an intergral part of muslim culture for centuries....but if you still believe that it is haram....then the reading of the Qu'ran can be considered music as the Imam will "sing" the verses and hadiths......do you still think that music is haram as by doing so, you also automatically asume that the reading of the Qu'ran in its lyrical poetic form (the intended way) is also haram.....:yep:

I found today very easy, mainly as I woke up at 11 and then spent the rest of my day on TSR... :woo:
but I am dreading the coming years as it will get earlier every year....meaning we will eventually be having close to 24 hr fasts.....humans die after 40-48 hrs without food + water....God help us:eek3:

The real reason that music is made haram is due to the possible influence it may have on the person, similarly how alcohol affects a person, music too may affect a person...eg. a slipknot song may make someone want to do drugs/drink etc. Whilst a rap song may eventually may make someone believe it is reasonable to kill someone and "pump them" to do it.....however, if the music has no effect on a person (as it doesn;t on the vast majority of us) then there should be no reason why we shouldn't enjoy music, especially as there are hadiths of the propher (pbuh) asking children to play music for him especially....so HA

I don't think music is haraam.

I've read quotes relating to it, from the Quran and the Hadith. What I gather is that its bad if it is used to wrongly influence people etc. Personally I listen to music for inspiration and to calm myself. Nothing I hear goes against my Islamic beliefs...so whatever. Just don't go around implying people are bad muslims if they do. Leave that to Allah.

I just don't see myself commiting a grave sin if I listen to...say...One Day In Your Life by Michael Jackson.
