    I have applied for the loan and basic maintenance grant for 09/10. Do I have to use the loan or can (some how hah) pay the tuition fees by cheque (if so how) and keep the maintenance grant o-O.

    Someone help me here?

    It goes direct so yes you have to use it.

    Whats the difference between that and keeping the cheque?

    tuition loan is ONLY for paying for tuiton, so if you dont want to use that you cant apply for it. The maintenance loan however is money to do with as you please - at one point it was profitable to stick it in a high interest account, but such accounts are few and far between given the current climate

    You can't find an account paying over 1.5% interest?

    You couldn't find one paying over 0.0% from Sept 1st?

    While it's true that many (probably most) accounts are paying shockingly low interest rates, there are still plenty with comparatively decent rates if you look for them.
