Is it possible to (just as a normal person) purchase quite large amounts of commodities and sell them at later dates?

Obviously I know it's possible to do so but whether there are realistic programmes and e.g. trading and storage websites for people without experience to participate.

Define "quite large". Varies a lot from commodity to commodity (e.g. you wouldn't want to store large volumes of wheat for any length of time, but you could easily hold on to a bar of gold for decades). Generally no, unless you have significant financial resources you're not going to be able to actually physically hold most commodities. You might want to look into an ETF.
Which accompaniment is best?
