What is the proof that I have achieved the grades I say I have (on applications, etc.) I mean, I have the certificates, but what if they got destroyed in a fire or something - is there a big database with my results from years ago on it somewhere?

Each of the awarding bodies have records going back a very long time and will produce the evidence required for a fee (about £30). Confirmation from your school (if they have even kept records) is rarely acceptable proof.

depending on how far back the qalifications are from.
An old teacher of mine lost her qualifications from the 70s and they were able to get copies for her but at £60 per certificate.
