Are there any days or courses you can go on to see what it would be like to be in the Royal Navy?

Yes. The RN organise various acquaints for prospective officers and ratings. Some AFCO's are better at offering these then others, but give them a ring or ask if you are dropping by, there should be no reason why they cant offer you something at some point. Im not aware of one that relates to seamanship particularly but they will have something to give you an insight into naval life.

What you are most likely to be offered is the RPC, check out the thread on RR about RNAC and RPC and there is also information on the RN website.

It may also be worth visiting one of the navy days which (i think!) are being held in early September this year. This will give you a chance to speak to the people who are actually doing the job and you stand more of a chance being given the full story, rather than just the ‘fluffy’ AFCO version.

    Best of luck
