I would be grateful if you could outline the specific 'principle' through which I ought to determine whether or not I am entitled to call myself Asian; although I'm usually inclined to refer to myself as 'Indian', as it's more specific.
so your Indian and British? i know a few Indians who wouldnt appreciate that too much.

Churchill for what he did as a politician and figurehead of Britian, makes him a worthy idol.
His personal views I think must be take separate to that, people are remembered for what they did.

that seems to be the general feeling among the British public. which begs the question why start such a thread in the first place, if not for the sake of some cheap controversy.

his point was that attitudes have changed considerably not to mention the whole demographic nature of the country. how was he a racist?

if this Guardian nonsense is what you define as racist then im afraid its a very laughable accusation.

Very predictable, I shall reply if you have anything to say where some thought has been involved

Hm...interesting, perhaps it's only the few Indians that you do know. I've been to India often, I've travelled the country and I've not met anybody as yet who doesn't 'appreciate that too much'. Also, if it's British Asians you refer to, again I'm very much inolved in the community, again, have not encountered this.

Ethnic origin can be distinct from nationality, a passport is a mere legal document confirming only the latter. This was pointed out earlier. Also, I really would like for you to explain to me who these people are you referred to earlier? The Indians who wouldn't appreciate that very much, that is. I know the language and culture at least as well as an educated native. So, do explain?? I'm particularly interested as I've never encountered people who would 'not appreciate' what I had said, and I've er...some across a fair few Indians in my time, from a very diverse range!

Yes, very true. Although, Churchill seems to have more than his fair share.

I'm always shocked when people describe Churchill as a "great man". He was only out for his own career and he had no strong political beliefs except for being a war monger- he changed from being a member of the conservatives to liberal and back again... I mean they stand for two totally different things- so much for loyalty. He was for socialism during WW1 but was totally against it before and he supported Stalin unconditionally. No wonder the public didn't vote him to stay in office after the war. It's a shame that history remembers him as a hero when he was the total opposite..

its pointless. as much as you and i can see the facts of life. the liberal lot wont stop until honest men like Churchill are brought down and rubbished as figureheads of white, colonial history. look at this forum, it serves no purpose but to bring into disrepute the feelings, beliefs and actions of a British man who stood up and single-handedly convinced the nation into defending its existence and that of an entire continent. he stood for what we believed to be British and that was worth fighting for. those who question that either have an extremely warped agenda or surely cant be considered British in sentiment.

and mandela is an open racist, but noone criticises them because the sane can see what they did historically, and the liberals love them as they provide the antithesis to what they hate.
