So i'm looking to buy a used car atm. I remember hearing about checking if a car you are buying is stolen and that all you have to do is go on a website and type in the registration number . However, I've been searching on google for something like this and they all seem to want to charge you for this service. I'm pretty sure I heard it was free

Anyway, does anyone know of a free website that checks this sort of stuff for you?

And if anyone wants to add any other tips for someone buying a used car, feel free

None of the sites providing that service are free, but this is one of the cheaper ones: www.mycarcheck.com

hpi checks are the most thorough and accurate I've found..

    http://www.hpicheck.com/newfrontend/

but at £19.99 a check (or 3 for £29.99) it's not the cheapest..

I've used RAC before but it was a bit pricy.

If you're buying from a dealer then just ask them to do one while you watch. Much cheaper (free )and even small dealers will have access as they do it on any car they take in as part exchange.

I think the my text check thing only checks a few things.

I might be wrong, but I'm sure a full HPI check covers far more.
