Annoying friend

Ok I need advice, there is this girl who I'm friends with and before we never spoke and to a certain extent didn't like to each other. Now we get on and are friends but there is one small problem. She never stops calling my house. Nearly every night if the phone rings after 9 pm I know it is here, and she chats for ages.

I try to tell her not to call so often but she kind of takes it as a joke and I don't want to hurt her feelings. How can I get her to stop calling me without looking or sounding like a bitch?

Please help, to save my ears at least.

Tricky situation... life is full of them!

Maybe you could say:

1. My Dad often receives business calls at that time so we really need to keep the line free (you could suggest she calls your mobile instead - which I guarantee she'll soon get tired of due to the cost)

2. Make a joke at school/college/work or whatever to the effect of 'I can't think of anything to say to you now because you phone me so often - we better cut down'

3. If you've got exams at the moment... that's a good 'excuse' to use - say you really can't be doing with phonecalls interrupting you

4. Just don't pick up the phone!

5. If there really is no other way, block her number - get in touch with your phone company and they'll tell you how to do this

Good luck hun! x

She rings the house phone, so there is only a certain amount of times my parents can cover for me. I'm conviently in the bath everytime. :frown:

i always use my mum in this situation - say your parents don't want you to block the phone up so can only speak for 15 mins or something?

If I'm not home she calls my mobile asking where I am.

She's spoken to my mum before and I think its past the stage where she would know I was lying as she's been doing this for a while now, so it would seem kinda odd for my mum to start moaning now.

I don't even have the excuse of getting up early now as I'm on study leave. :frown:

you could make up something important to be happening like a parent looking for a new job or something and tell her that they think it's best if the line is free and so you can't talk for long.
or that your parents want you to spend some 'quality time' with your family (that's what my rents did to my lil' sister) because, between revision and being on the phone, you're simply neglecting them :p:

Be really boring lol...just stay silent and say "yeah" "hmm" every so often!
Quite simply, if she is your friend then she will cope with the fact that you do not want to speak to her all the time.

Tact needs to be thrown out of the window at times.

Lol, well I do sit there not listening. I'm usually on msn and watching tv but she still don't get the hint that I have no idea what shes chattin bout.

here's a novel thought....tell her the truth! *shock horror*.

If you do it in a tactful way (ie "listen, i really love chatting to you but maybe we talk too much on the phone? my evenings are pretty much taken up by our girly chit chat! ----> also puts the blame on both of you, instead of just her!) then she'll get the message without having to do any guess work and you've been honest. Sorted!

Gosh i love being me
you need to say whats on your mind - your busy and cant talk now.

@lauren18: how coooool must it be to hear "sorry, your number has been blocked for this call" when youre trying to reach a "good" friend of yours ^^

Busy with what excuse. She knows I don't revise at night. :frown:
switch on your answer machine and record the following:
'you have reached the wrong number.'
