I was thinking of taking up rowing next year... beginning to reconsider now though.


afraid it seems to be an occupational hazard.

but if you do it gradually & let them dry out, then you just end up with strategic calloused areas, rather than continually gaping sores or anything.. :p:

edit - experienced rower speaking here (not elles): the key to getting blisters to heal quickly so you get callouses is to let them dry out when you are not using them. so leave them open to the air - no plasters.

If the skin is cracking however, that is too dry and I use vaseline to stop that happening.

When you are using you hands for other sports put some tape, or plasters over the blisters. If you are rowing go for ZINC OXIDE TAPE it is very durable.

It takes a few weeks to build up a good set of callouses so stick with it.
